The Sandbox is a decentralised platform made by players for players. Within five years of publicly launching the game, The Sandbox's goal is that 100% of the LAND and SAND will be owned by the players. By then there will not be any LAND or SAND in the company reserves. The ASSETs in the game are user-generated, so those are already owned by their creators. We are preparing a MMO-RPG inspired gameplay, where players will need to complete quests across the map (kill enemies, collect items etc), either in LANDs made by players or in procedurally generated LANDs. Yes it is entirely free to use. There are no in-app purchases or hidden costs of any sort! However, you will need to own some LAND to be able to publish experiences and games that you create on the platform for others to play.

The Game Maker is currently available on PC and Mac, but in the future the games made with it should also be playable on mobile. We are aiming for mobile gameplay to be released in 2021 on our Roadmap.

We might add visual scripting and custom programming in future versions. At the moment our focus is to allow great flexibility and customization with a no-code approach.

The Sandbox Game Maker is built using Unity.

Our Game Maker has a no-code approach, so you won't need any programming/coding knowledge. It has tools, features, behaviours and attributes for every ASSET to help you create a game without coding knowledge.

The game making process follows 3 layers. Each of these layers allow for a deeper customization of the game.

1st layer - Behaviours : Creators can attach behaviours to entities and tweak their parameters to create game experiences.

2nd layer - Visual scripting : Creators can create their own behaviours using our Visual Scripting tool.

3rd layer - Scripting : Creators can create their own behaviours using Scripting.

A human NPC or avatar is 2 metres (or two blocks) tall. That means they are 64 voxels in height.

Yes, we can import/export to OBJ and MagicaVoxel models. MagicaVoxel doesn't support importing VoxEdit animated VXR though.

No, you do not. Though VoxEdit may be a small learning curve if you've never designed ASSETs before. Starting small and building your way up is a great way to get the hang of it!

The marketplace allows users to upload, publish, and sell their ASSETS made in VoxEdit, as Non-Fungible Tokens (Both ERC-721 and ERC-1155 tokens). As the main structure where blockchain integrates our gaming platform, our Marketplace has two important functions. First, it’s the initial step for converting voxel assets to NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) called ASSETs. Second, it presents artists with a decentralized worldwide Marketplace to sell their ASSETs, introducing them to the blockchain. We also use an open standard (ERC-721), which means that any creation is immediately available on 3rd party digital marketplaces as well as The Sandbox, giving your work additional visibility.

LAND is a non-fungible (ERC-721) NFT that represents a digital piece of real estate in The Sandbox metaverse. There is a limited number of LANDS, 166,464 in total, each with a unique location.

A 1x1 plot of LAND is 96x96x128 metres.

Players can own, create and publish game experiences on their LAND. The game can be accessed through a virtual map where the locations of LANDs and proximity to larger Estates and key positions will play a role in the gameplay, economy and visibility of games.

LAND will have the capability to be rented out to other players, and owners can invite other creators into their LAND to help create an experience collaboratively.

LAND owners can decide how much they want to charge for renting LAND parcels. But they will need to remain competitive for game creators to keep an economic incentive to paying out a rent while monetising their experiences and continue developing them.

Yes, you will be able to merge your LANDs to create an ESTATE as long as they’re adjacent. Note that this is an upcoming feature.

The Sandbox does not plan to take any cut or revenue share on the LANDs or Games. Each LAND owner receives 100% for himself

Choosing a location depends on the nearby LANDs, ESTATES and PARTNERS, as these can attract more visitors near to you. As players need to travel between LANDs, the closer you are to hot spots, the more traffic you're likely to generate.

We recommend to choose a bigger ESTATE if you want to create bigger games and potentially enable more players in Multiplayer

The location of a LAND or ESTATE doesn't have any impact on the GAMES that can be made by the Game Creators.

We are introducing the basics of The Sandbox transportation system, which will be more detailed in the future.

Players will arrive directly within worlds through spawn points and portals.

They will be able to move to adjacent LANDS and use transportation portals to allow fast-travel between distant LANDs.

Portals will allow visitors to easily explore the game experiences in their LAND— similar to the benefit of having a subway station next to your place of business.

A District requires at least two different owners. A group of LANDS/ESTATES combined from a single player is just a bigger ESTATE.
